Jetmore – Sylvia Doris Fox VanVleet, 89, died January 13, 2026 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, Kansas.

She was born June 24, 1936 at her grandparent Sauer's farm, southwest of Bazine. She was the daughter of Hiart (Jim) and Mary Eva Sauer Fox.

She was a resident of Hodgeman County all her life. She worked beside her husband for many years. She worked as a florist for a while. When the economy became bad, she went to DCCC at the age of 50. She earned several associate degrees before becoming an LPN and then an RN. She worked at Hodgeman County Health Center as an LPN then at Ness County Hospital as an RN. She retired in 2008.

She was married to George VanVleet Jr. on June 24, 1954 at Jetmore; he preceded her in death July 9, 2011.

Survivors include: two sons, Ricky J. (Marshiela) VanVleet, Kennewick, Washington, Garret L. (Sheila) VanVleet, Liberal; one daughter Gerry A. O'Connor, El Dorado, Kansas; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Jack Fox, Dodge City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and an infant son, Galen L. VanVleet.

Cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Her ashes will be spread on the fam where she has lived since 1954.
