Larned – Virgil William Schraeder, 93, died March 19, 2009 at Larned HealthCare Center, Larned.
He was born September 2, 1915 in Rush County, the son of William and Katie Schneider Schraeder. A resident of Pawnee Rock from 1957 to 1981 moving to Larned, he was a retired Plant Operator for Central Kansas Electric (REA) of Great Bend.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.
On March 13, 1948 he married Helen Coker at Great Bend. She died April 7, 1974. On March 26, 1981 he married Elizabeth "Beth" Handley at Miami, Oklahoma. She survives.
Survivors include; a son Jay Dee Schraeder, Larned; a daughter, Rita Ansberry, Larned; two step-sons, Bob Lee Handley, Phoenix, Arizona, Tom Bert Handley, Wichita Falls, Texas; a step-daughter, Jo Ann Handley, Larned; a sister, Margaret Umberger, Oakley; four grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, twelve step-great-grandchildren; and a special K-9 friend, Emmie Lou.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen; and a brother Delair Linley.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Dan Lundgren presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock, Kansas.
