Obituary

Larned – Virginia "Faye" Carpenter, 91, died January 31, 2008 at Larned Health Care Center, Larned.

She was born July 7, 1916 in Pawnee County the daughter of Henry and Sara McClernon Bird. A lifetime Pawnee County resident. She was a retired Activity Therapist at Larned State Hospital.

She attended Garfield Public Schools and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, Larned. She had traveled all 50 States and 7 Continents.

On November 11, 1937 she married George Simmons. He died July 18, 1980. On October 25, 1986 she married Howard Carpenter. He survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Susann Cooksey, Littleton, Colorado, Elizabeth "Liz" Brickey, Arkansas City, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She as preceded in death by her first husband, George Simmons, a brother, Harold Bird, two half brothers, Eldred and Cecil Bird, a sister Grace Simmons and a grandchild.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned with Father Bernard Felix Celebrant. Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. to 8p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas
