Larned – Virginia Lewis Johnson, 89, died February 14, 2008, at the Larned Health Care Center, Larned.
She was born February 13, 1919 at Beagle, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas Virgil and Verna Beamer Lewis. A 64 year resident of Larned moving from Deighton, she was Office Manager for the Larned Tiller & Toiler from 1942 to 1984.
She graduated from Dighton High School, and attended Emporia State Teachers College. She was a member of the Church of Christ, past state president of BPW, D.A.R., Garden Club, Ft. Larned Historical Society also serving as Director and Secretary, all of Larned. She was also active and attended hearings with Bob Dole in Washington D.C. in regards to the bill he presented; Equal rights for women, and was also a former Stockholder in the Larned Tiller & Toiler Newspaper.
On May 17th, 1969 she married Cecil Clair Johnson at Wichita, Kansas. He died April 12, 2005.
Survivors include: one daughter, Nancy Adams and her husband, John, Larned; two grandchildren, Kevan Adams, Amy Seeman and husband Mike, both of Larned; and four great-grandchildren, Lyndse Adams, Tayler Ann Adams, Sam Adams, all of Olathe, and Katie Seeman, Larned.
Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday at the Beckwtih Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jimmie Keas presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned.
