William A. Carr, 84, passed away August 7, 2026, at Hodgeman County Health Center in Jetmore.

He was born September 18, 1941, in Florence, Kansas, the eldest son of Max Edwin and Wanda Louise Herzet Carr.

A longtime resident of Hodgeman County, Bill spent his career in agriculture as a grain elevator manager, where he built strong and lasting relationships with the farmers he served. He was a faithful member of Jetmore Methodist Church, and his faith was an important part of his life, reflected in the kindness, generosity, and service he showed to others.

Bill had a generous heart for service and gave countless hours to his community throughout his life. For 35 years, he served with Hodgeman and Wichita County EMS. He also served for many years on the Hodgeman County School Board and gave his time to Hodgeman County Extension Board, the Wichita County Fair, Journey to Bethlehem, and the Hodgeman County Conservation District Board.

Bill was always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed. Known for his wisdom, steady presence, and willingness to share what he had learned, he was a trusted friend and valued mentor to many. He had a special commitment to the youth of his community and took great pride in encouraging and supporting them. Through his many years of service on the Hodgeman County School Board, coaching youth sports, and refereeing sporting events, Bill generously gave his time to help young people learn, grow, and succeed. His example of faith, service, hard work, and care for others left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

Bill learned carpentry and woodworking from his father at an early age, a skill and tradition he shared with his brothers throughout the years. More than a pastime, working with his hands was a connection to his family and something that brought him great satisfaction. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors.

On January 14, 1962, Bill married Rosalie A. Dohner in Marion, Kansas.

Above all, Bill treasured his family and the time they shared together. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosalie; daughter, Debra Ann (David) Webb, Jetmore; son, Douglas William (Christine) Carr, Berryton; six grandchildren, Lee Everett Webb (Jesse Walters), Denver, Colorado, Derek (Haley) Carr and children Breckyn and Max, Topeka, Allison Carr, McLean, Virginia, Elyssa Carr (Ian Sharma-Crawford), Sonoma, California, Luke William Webb, Garden City, and Adrianne Carr, Topeka.

He is also survived by six brothers, Thomas E. (Marsha) Carr, Wichita, Max E. (Donna) Carr, Andover, James R. (Kathy) Carr, Hillsboro, David A. (Nina) Carr, Patrick L. (Ann) Carr, and Michael W. (Dawn) Carr, all of Marion; and two sisters, Susan K. Wheeler, Wichita, and Nancy C. (David) Day, Valley Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Duane Dean Carr; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne L. (Robert) Higgins; and brother-in-law, Frank Wheeler.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Jetmore Methodist Church, with Pastor Maria Grimm presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore, with the family present from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at Marion Cemetery in Marion, Kansas with Pastor Maria Grimm presiding.
